Black women’s hair, intentional or not, is both a social and political statement. Whether straightened, natural, or out of a bag, hair for Black women is both their glory and contested bodily space. Join us for a day-long symposium discussing the political, social, and business aspects surrounding Black women’s hair.
Co-sponsored by the Center for Africana Studies along with Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies Program and The Alice Paul Center for Research on Women, Gender, and Sexuality.
Host: Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC and Professor of Political Science at Tulane University
