HR L&E Presents Coaching Skills for Managers

“To remain competitive, companies need to retain valuable employees, address problems that interfere with productivity, and help employees achieve their full potential. But the traditional “command and control” method of managing employees has been shown to be less effective than involving people in their own development—and the best way to do this is to guide them through improvement using coaching tools and techniques. In this program you will increase your ability to
• Learn to discern the difference between coaching and other development strategies.
• Discover the key elements to successful coaching relationships.
• Understand the coaching process and how to apply each step.
• Identify common challenges to successful coaching.
• Discover effective strategies for managing challenges.
• Establish and maintain a successful coaching relationship with an employee.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Wellness Walk: October 23

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In honor of this month, we are dedicating October’s walk to those who are currently battling breast cancer, have lost their battle to breast cancer, and who are survivors of breast cancer.  We are asking everyone who can to show their support by wearing pink.  It can be a pink hat, shirt, socks, jewelry, scarf, etc.  The more pink the better. J   We want to help bring awareness as we walk throughout the Penn community.  So grab your coworkers and join us for just an hour as we take advantage of the great benefits walking produces, while we also remember those who are still on their journey to recovery, pay tribute and honor those who are no longer with us, and celebrate those who have survived!

The walk will take place on Friday, October 23, 2015 starting at 12 noon.  We will meet in front of College Hall by the Ben Franklin statue.  There will be an option to participate in a 1-mile or a 2-mile route.  Even if you do not have time to or feel that you cannot walk the entire course, please come out and join us for as long as you are able. You may drop off at any time throughout the walk.

Register for the walk here.  We want to acknowledge and thank our colleagues from the Center for Public Health Initiatives, our collaborators who will be leading October’s walk. We thank you for your participation and look forward to seeing everyone on Friday, October 23, 2015.
